Spring 2012 7v7 Tournaments Conclude

Monday, April 16:

Night one of the 7v7 tournaments is in the books, and after several close games and penalty kick tiebreakers we have crowned 2 champions! In the first tournament of the night, the U11 and U12 girls age groups squared on in a massive 10 team tournament. After two close semis (one ending in a shootout), team Nike won the the championship game in dramatic fashion after converting all 3 of their penalty kicks in the shootout. See below for their team photo. In the second tournament of the night, the U11 boys and 2 of the U12 boys teams lined up to contest their 6 team tournament. After an exciting group stage, the knockout rounds were set. The final ended up being played to a 1-1 draw, so a shootout would again decide the winner. After several saves and misses, the Pretty Pink Ponies won with their 5th kick being smashed off both posts and into the goal. See below for their team photo.

Wednesday, April 18:

The second night of the 7v7 tournaments got off to a flying start, with the U12 Nike and Swoosh and U13 Swoosh Boys competing alongside the U13 Swoosh and U14 Nike and Swoosh Girls. After an entertaining 10 team round robin tournament and yet another semifinal shootout, the Wolf Gang prevailed to win the championship. See below for their team photo. The final tournament of the week included the 13 Nike Boys, 14 Nike Boys and the U15 Nike, Swoosh and A1 Boys. Again, 10 teams vied for the coveted championship. The early favorites (picked by oddsmaker Jumbo Garcia) were team Bojangless. They cruised through the round robin stages to earn the top seed going into the knockout stages, but were upset in the semifinal by dark horse Machester Compromise (more on the name later). The final was a back and forth affair, and was tied 2-2 heading into added time. Sean Creamer took the game over from their, netting twice to complete his 4 goal performance and seal the championship for the underdog Manchester Compromise. Why Compromise? Half of the team supports City, the other half United. They put aside their red and blue differences however to take home the final championship of the week. See below for their team photo.
