Fall 7v7 Tournaments Conclude

Day 1 of the 7v7 tournaments is in the books, and what a night it was! The evening kicked off with the U11 and U12 girls along with the U11 Swoosh boys contesting an 8 team tournament. After the group stage, the semifinals were set. After 2 very close games (one that ended in a shootout), the Fireballs eventually prevailed in another shootout to win the final. Jaimee Hilton netted the final penalty kick to seal the victory for the Fireballs, amongst loud cheers of "When The Rush Go Marching In" from the 50 screaming players watching the game. In the second tournament of the night, the U11 Nike boys joined the U12 A1 and A2 boys in a 6 team round robin tournament. After the group stage (and a 3-way tie for 4th place that was settled on goal differential), the semifinals were set. Not to let the earlier group outdo them, both semifinals were very close, with one ending in penalties. The final matchup was set. With the championship match at 2-1 deep into the 1 minute of injury time remaining, Harrison Huthoefer collected the ball at midfield and took matters into his own hands, rounding 3 defenders and smashing home the equalizing goal with the last kick of the game. In the ensuing shootout, the Killas eventually won with their 4th shot as they were cheered on by the rest of the boys singing "All You Rush Fans Give Us A Lean"! A good time was had by everyone, and congratulations to our winners. See below for names and photos of the champions!

Day 2 of the 7v7 tournaments started off great, with the U13 and U14 girls playing alongside the U12 Nike and Swoosh Boys. After a very close first round, the semifinals were set. For the first time this fall, both semis ended in regualtion, with the Donuts and the Tigers advancing. Led by repeat champion Angelica Bader, the Tigers avenged their earlier defeat in the group stages to the Donuts with a convincing 6-1 win. In the last tournament of the season, the U13 and U14 boys were joined by the U15 Nike Girls in what would be the most entertaining session so far. Alongside 7 teams made up from this bunch, a team of coaches was a surprise late entry into the group stages. After a hotly contested first round, the coaches narrowly snuck out of their group in second place. After the semifinals, the coaches advanced to play against Fury, the only team to have knocked them off in the first round. In a cagey final, the Fury took an early lead after a questionable decision from the German referee that awarded them an indirect free kick. The coaches battled back, and with 1 minute remaining in the match Dan Highstead teed up a long range effort after a great first touch and smashed home the equalizer to the far post. In the shootout to decide the winner, the coaches got off to a rough start after they blasted their first 2 shots over the bar. The coaches netted their next two shots, and goalkeeper Brian Lux made 2 key saves (the second a brilliant stop on a shot headed to the top left corner) to set the stage for Diego Romero to smash home the final goal that would win the title. Overall the most entertaining and exhilirating final of the week. Congratulations to all the players that participated, to the Fury for taking the coaches down to the wire, and to the coaches for their late game heroics to win the title! See below for pictures of the champions, and we will see you all in the Spring for the next edition of the 7v7 tournaments!
