Rush Teams Dominate Prodigy Cup

Dax3Rush Pikes Peak had several team's competing in last week's Prodigy Cup, and 4 of the teams won the tournament! See below for pictures and writeups about the team!

Rush Blue Thunder Go Undefeated to Bring Home Prodigy Cup

Being new to the 8 v 8 format and larger fields didn't stop Pikes Peak Rush U9 Girls Team Blue Thunder from running the table at the Prodigy Cup this weekend. The combination of a stingy defense that only gave up two goals all weekend and a "never quit" offense propelled the Blue Thunder to the top of the ranks. In the pivotal game against the Pueblo Rangers that would determine the champions, the Blue Thunder rallied from 1-0 down in the second half to win 2-1 and secure first place. Coach Dax Kurbegov and Tammy Schneider were most proud of the great passing and team play that produced dozens of chances to score over the weekend. More than five players scored goals for the Blue Thunder. The team, comprised of mostly Rush Developmental players, included Erica Merz, Anneka Sedelmyer, Lauren Raley, Hannah Ferguson, Eva-Kate Ryder, Avery Veheyen, Olivia Danjuma, Paige Dowis, Dara Kurbegov, Shealan Waters, Sarah Langley, Erica Sherwin, and Reagan Dowis. The team would like to thank big sibs and Rush Competitive players Alex Kurbegov, Hudson Ryder, and Breanne Raley for their service as assistant referees during the competition.

The Rush "United" U9 soccer boys dominated the Prodigy Cup in Colorado Springs, CO on May 17 and 18th.  They dominated the competition in the U9 Silver division.  They went undefeated, 4-0, for the weekend.  They scored nearly 40 goals and only had one goal against.  "I was proud of our boys.  They handled the success with class.", said Dr. Daniel Soteres their coach. "It wasn't exactly the competition we hoped for, but the experience allowed many of our players to work on new techniques and new moves."

When asked what they liked about the tournament here's what the boys had to say: "This was awesome," Elliot Lee, "Winning," Fletcher Soteres, "I tried some new moves and they worked," Gregor Hawrnek. Congrats boys!

Rush Player Development Showcased at Tournament
A resounding “We Are The Rush” refrain could be heard at the El Pomar Sports Complex the weekend of May 17-18 as several Developmental teams excelled.  The U8 Barca team steamrolled a tournament slate of 12 teams at the Prodigy Cup, all the way to a 5-1 win in the Final!  Barca featured a passing game like its professional namesake, with scoring shared across the group.
Also enjoying success, the Juve U8 team, which is part of the cohort pool with Barca, placed 5th.  Juve missed the knockout round by a mere point, finishing with two wins in three games and only lost to the other finalist 1-0 in the dying moments of its pool play match.
Also featuring an advanced passing game, an opposing coach remarked about Juve, “There’s not a weak player in the team, and we had not lost all season until today.” Remarks about Barca included:  “What a stacked team” and the player talent pool “is so deep.”   Most of the Barca and Juve cohort teams have been training together for five years.  Together, Barca and Juve finished with a 6-1-1 record and scored 41 goals, giving up only 8.
Great job Rush Pikes Peak teams!  Way to finish out the spring season.

Showcasing months of hard work and determination, The Rush Pikes Peak Flames won their U10 girls gold division at last week's Prodigy Cup. In four games, they did not allow one goal to be scored and showed off fabulous scoring ability with scores of 6-0, 7-0, 2-0 and 6-0.
